“1 Corinthians 13:11”

as a boy I played Castlevania,
played imagined Stock Car Races on Big Wheels
and enough Cans, that I bet you still can’t beat me.
As a boy I believed that the A-team
were just well trained marksmen
and the fact that no one ever died
when they shot directly at them, seemed heroic.
Believed the General Lee was painted
with a Confederate flag on the roof
because the Duke boys had southern pride.

When I would dream at night
of World Wrestling Federation titles
Hulk Hogan always lost to me
and the Road Warriors were my best friends.
When Christmas morning was magical,
when my father would never lie to me & was on his way…any minute now,
when the American Flag didn’t feel like slave ships
and black lives matter tee shirts.

“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
